Momma Gator
Posted by field-dog on August 21, 2019 at 1:56 pmWe’re two setups away from completing a topo. A momma gator, we assume, is protecting her nest. The eggs typically hatch mid-August or early September.

Just a guess but I would wager that you are now 3 more setups away from finishing.
We don’t have gator problems here, occasionally one will make its way up the Coosa River to Rome but that’s about it. A fair amount of rattlesnakes and copperheads and an occasional cotton mouth.
Where’s the pictures?
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will!You don’t see this every day, in Puyallup ????
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will!Mike, Mike, Mike, what day is it?
HUMP DAY!

Don’t give up yer daytime job. ????
@dougie
You mean the Camel? or our nearsighted Holy Cow trying to put the make on the camel he thinks is a cow? ????
Are you in central FL? If so, and you want to see some mommas and babies take a stroll in the littoral zone on the south side of of Lake Jesup. You’ll probably be eaten but will have fond memories of the occasion. ????
Florida’s Lake Jessup:
“This 100,000-year-old lake is home to well over 10,000 alligators ?? the largest concentration of these magnificent creatures in any lake in the United States. Wild boars, bobcats and birds, including Bald Eagles, also call Lake Jesup home.”
I was occupying a point on the outside of a chain link fence. The party chief and rodman were inside the fence, dealing with the gator. My last setup would’ve been inside the fence. I figured you would have more than an occasional cotton mouth up there.
MH@dougie
I’ll post them, all two of them, tomorrow.
MHNope. Not nearsighted a bit.
Camels are weird. Smart cows avoid them.

I’m in Orlando. Every time I take the 417 over Lake Jessup, I think about those 10,000 plus gators. Momma gator’s territory is nowhere nearly as large. She resides in the area delineated by the red rectangle.

Nope, never in a million years…
Do you call it a job, if you really enjoy it?
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will!Season opens next week here in louisiana I will be removing 3 from the herd. Hopefully catch another nice one this is from a few years ago.
Should make a data collector bag out of it.

Yup I know a guy who gets a 12’er out of there pretty much every season. I’ve heard them bellowing in late January when we’re still duck hunting.
Got tags for a permit only area tomorrow. I’ll put up a couple pics.
@dougie
See her yellowish neck? She snuck up on the party chief.
Kinda blurry, but you can see her open mouth. She didn’t appreciate the party chief’s attempt to scare her off.
MHAs to your previous question: yes I love my “job”. Especially now that my VP can run the place without survey type stuff input from me. It’s been a love/hate relationship for the last 30 years, but, a “whole lotta love” outweighs the hate.
I honestly think that when someone in a vehicle on the 417 Jessup Bridge finally manages to plunge into the lake, the gators will arrive at the scene before Fire/Rescue does.
And finally what in hell is going up on the site you are working on? Doesn’t look like there is any access, at least on the North side and it’s unlikely that a curb cut could happen on the southbound acceleration lane of Dean Rd.

Nothing at all. The county wants to widen Lake Underhill Road, and is looking for areas to create retention ponds.
MH I gotta tell ya, the pythons would seem to worry me more than a gator. I am frequently reading stories of those huge snakes spreading all over Florida and killing everything they can and I often wonder why we have not heard of someone, a kid, elderly person, or a surveyor being killed by one of those things.
