Submitted my application this week for comity. I have Dr. Elgin's Arkansas book (signed copy and hand delivered). I also have the min. standards, Title 17, Title 19 as it relates to surveying. I just thought I would ask if anyone has any material, advice, etc.

I assume the test will be similar to Missouri, part 1 being rules and standards, part 2 section breakdown stuff.

All this in mind with the assumption I will be approved to sit for the test..

    Thanks

If you were approved for Missouri, you should be approved for Arkansas. Just remember that (as far as the exam goes), you proportion using the monuments found for the standard corners on the township and Standard Parallels not necessarily the nearest corners found.

I am not sure of the current test but at one time there were some questions on Tiffin's instructions on the test as well as some on GLO plats and Notes. Arkansas does not have Parallels and Meridians on the normal 24 mile spacing but I don't believe Missouri does either.

I took the roving Dr. Elgin course back in the early 90s. I still use those notes for test prep. Living in the Northwest where the PLSS is still young and intact it's been a great foundation.
    Is he still teaching?

Yes he is still teaching at Rolla, just a few classes I think. He is doing lots of things for the State and I believe he is doing some conference circuits.

He did a 4 hour class yesterday at the conference.

Rumor on the streets has it that the MO and AR test are for the most part the same test.

My suspicion is that Dr. Elgin writes the exam for Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri. I do believe he grades them all as well.

Just received notice that I have been approved to sit for the exam! Cool Beans. And I don't have to wait until NCEES day - even better.

I responded to your recent message/email but did not receive a reply.
I believe that I do have the book that you inquired about in your message.
    Good luck

I recommend the "Handbook for Arkansas Land Surveyors", published by the Arkansas Geological Commission, Land Survey Division.
