Posted by amdomag on July 26, 2013 at 6:46 amAny experience pairing a total station with standard bluetooth with a data collector equipped with long range bluetooth?
Good day!
Thank you.

500′ of range on average. A little more in open flat areas, a little less in wooded areas.
This came up here a few days ago. According to Wiki, BT comes in 3 classes:
Class 1 – 100 meters
Class 2 – 10 meters
Class 3 – 1 meterI recall getting about 30 feet out of my Ranger 200/Hiper Pro, so I assume both were equipped with at least Class 2. I suppose one could have been Class 1, but not both.
I’m not sure about long Range BT, those users claim up to 300 meters, so there must be a class better than Class 1. But whatever you have, you’ll be limited to your lowest device, so you’ll have to see what class your TS and DC are.

If my DC has the LRBT with 300m range and my total station BT of 30m range, the effective reach would only be 30m? I hope otherwise.
Yes, your distance would be limited by the transmitting range of the weakest device.

If this is the case then I need to disable my TS BT and employ an external LRBT module and pair it with another LRBT module in DC?
Thanks for sharing. Highly appreciated. 🙂
