NGS funding
Posted by rankin_file on April 9, 2020 at 6:56 pmGiven the recent -??fund everything in the name of fighting the pandemic? climate, does anyone know if NGS got hit with a random bag of money to continue or improve their operations? I??d certainly hope so…

I would be mega greatly surprised if NGS got a dime of this funding.
@base9geodesy. I was hoping they’d get a little something by maybe even a typo in the legislative sausage machine…
Are they going to fund everything, or are they going to cut everything in the name of giving out free money?
I friend of mine as a contract with the feds for mowing. It was a 1yr, with 4x 1yr options. They structure it that way in case they don’t like the job the contractor does. His results were fantastic, and they loved it. This summer was going to be his 3 option year – just got word they will not be picking it up due to lack of funding. How many other things are they going to cut back on because there is no money coming in?
Heck, I think it would take a huuuge increase just to make up for the last few years cuts at NOAA
Whenever I hear of the prospect of funding for worthwhile projects or programs, I am always reminded of federal budgeting works. I am also disheartened to recall the failure of the ASCE??s infrastructure needs report to resonate. See: https://www.infrastructurereportcard.org/
Recollecting the history of funding for NGS I recall too many instances where plans fell apart due to funding shortfalls. See here for example: https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/2010Summit/Presentations/Day1CTranscripts_Bossler.pdf
