Leica Captivate and TS15 Compatibility? any advice Appreciated
Posted by bmwalshy on March 20, 2018 at 2:15 amHello all,
A friend has offered me for sale a CS20 controller for sale which has Captivate V2.1 installed
Iam running a TS15 with Leica viva onboard
Can i upgrade my TS15 to run captivate or will i have to purchase Software for the cs20 to be able to work with the TS15?
Any advice appreciated!!
Thanks!
Brendan

According to Leica captivate 2.0 release notes, the only way for this to work is:
TS15 running on smart works viva 5.6 to 6.0
cs20 running on captivate 1.2 to 1.3
After working with captivate, I wouldn’t do it. The early versions of captivate were plagued with problems, and most people who use viva are happier with it than captivate.

Hi Brendan
Your TS15 will need to be on FW6.0 Viva or higher.
FW2.1 Captivate did contain a number of bug fixes, and I think you will find transition from Viva software quite easy with lots of similarities.
Best regards
Phil
Thanks Phill,
Iam running 5.7 on TS15 and the cs20 is running 2.1, may just have to upgrade the TS15 firmware then i think they are up to 7.02!
Thanks Phill i really appreciate your help!!!
Phil , can I run the software of the TS15 or will I have to pay for software licences for the cs20 aswell?
Thanks again
Brendan
Brendan,
Just saw the release notes for Captivate 3.0 (brand new!)
All versions of Captivate 2.x will not be compatible with your TS15 according to the release notes.
The good news is Captivate 3.0 IS compatible with viva. You will likely need to contact your local Leica guys for the update, and pay a few hundred bucks for the CCP??s.
Captivate 3.0 is much Much MUCH better than the earlier versions.
Thanks again!
I’ll upgrade my TS15 now and once the CS20 arrives ill get the ccp up on that too big releif look forward to running the cs20 have been using a panasonic toughbook in the past and its to cumbersome with use with mini prism whilst working on bridges etc!
Thanks!!
I don’t think you can run Captivate on the TS15 (or CS15) . I may be wrong but the screen is too small for starters and I think the underlying operating system is different.
I believe you can connect a CS20 with Captivate to a TS15 as long as the TS15 has correspnding version of Viva (as laid out in the release notes).
There is not much difference with Viva under the hood (some improvements mostly). You do benefit from a much better display though. CS20 has a nice large bright screen which helps me a lot.
Brendan,
if you have questions with Captivate feel free to reach out to me.
I am pretty critical of Captivate, but have sorted out a bunch of stuff that Captivate is weak on demonstrating correctly.
the training and support isn??t great but the product is pretty powerful.
Thanks again,
Ive never used captivate at all so i’ll see how I go have used a program developed in australia the last 8 years and want to go to Captivate /CS20 so that I can work on my own as the tablet i currently use is to cumbersome to be working on bridge setout etc with a mini prism and tablet at the same time
Cheers
