IPhone hotspot
Posted by slickab on December 6, 2019 at 6:01 pmThe other cheif uses an IPhone 7 and hooks right up to the Topcon Tesla. My IPhone 8 just sits spinning, says connecting, but never does…
Can someone help me? Is it in the settings on the phone somewhere? HELP !!!

Both partners in a bluetooth connection need to be set to pair up. Look for a setting on your dc to allow connection.
We had the same problem with 2 different iPhones trying to connect to the same dc for a hotspot. You need to setup a different profile for your hotspot in the dc instead of using a default name of ??iPhone?. Use iPhone 1 and iPhone 2, or name each profile something different. I bet the dc is trying to connect to the other chiefs profile/iPhone and not yours. Setup in dc, not iPhone.
Thanks guys, let me try this…
One thing I have learned about this issue is to make certain there are no special characters in the iPhone’s name, as in, jerry’siphone. That does not work. Even so, my iPhone 10 will rarely connect as hotspot to most of the data collectors I have tried it with. If the controller is a tablet PC, I have had success by using the USB power cable, but then you are not connecting by Wi-Fi. I have had my phone to connect to a computer or WEHH device once, then refuse to ever connect again. And as if that weren’t enough, I have even had it refuse to reconnect via the USB cable even after having successfully connected before. Frustrating…
If this is going to be a production tool in the field, I understand the temptation to use an existing device in lieu of purchasing a separate personal dedicated hotspot, but it would probably be worth it to get something like a Jet Pack to use for your mobile hotspot.
I connect my RT3 (win10) to my iPhone on occasion to do network roving. Rarely does it work in the first try. I get a myriad of errors. Can??t connect, connected no internet, not even showing up in the available networks, connect disconnect connect disconnect over and over and other errors. what I have found that seems to always work is to turn on the iPhone hotspot and turn on the RT3 while I??m driving. 99% of the time it will be connected correctly by the time I get to the site with no input from me. But if I try to manually force the issue….it??s like it won??t connect for no other reason than to spite me. Lol.
