Importing into Topcon Magnet Field
Posted by jonathong on April 13, 2018 at 7:10 pmI would like to creat my own .csv file with point on it and import it into the Magnet then do a stakeout. I’m having format issues. I’m getting errors when trying to import points from the file. Is there a way to format a csv file to so it will be accepted by Magnet field software?

First, copy your .csv file and existing job in Magnet to temp location, just in case things go wrong.
I think you can just rename the .csv file to .asc or .txt and then import. When importing make sure you choose the same format (P,N,E,EL,DES) as your original .csv file.
Magnet Field can input from a CSV without any problems. I think the error is the format. Go to Topcon Text Custom in exchange, and select all files. from the drop down. Have Comma selected as the separator, and make sure the Format style is correct. I am willing to bet though, if it is, the CSV file itself is wrong. Missing elevation, or description, etc. Make sure you have all 5 fields filled out correctly, and no headers. For Example, N, E, Z, # etc. Just a straight file of the points, with all fields clearly filled out. One missing elevation or code will screw up the import.
1, 5000, 5000, 100, BM as an example.
Using Magnet 4.1 here.
I got your error message when using the format: APL Text Custom (*.txt;*.csv;*.dat)
I did not get the error when using format: NEZ(*.csv) or NEZ w/strings(*.csv) They both worked for me.
As others have said the csv format is: Name,N,E,Z,code or note
Of course you wouldn’t want to use any of the other two dozen or so exchange from file format choices.
Thanks I’ve got it working now by selecting the NEZ format. Now if anyone could help me figure out how to set up MAGNET to use WGS84 UTM10 ESPG32610 That would make my day!
