Editing gps raw data files in Rinex
Posted by true-corner on April 16, 2019 at 4:21 pmWell it looks like my receivers (Trimble 4700’s)reverted to 1999. Okay how do I edit the GPS raw data files through Rinex?
Rinex was easily done in Trimble Geomatics software but I don’t see a conversion button in Trimble Business Center, Where could I convert the files into Rinex?
Secondly, once i convert the files I do I edit them, what am I looking for?
Sorry but I haven’t used Rinex in a dogs age. Thanks for the help, I got a job to get out and I haven’t been able to process.

Look for John Hamilton’s fixweek program that will modify .dat files (also rinexweeks?). A recent discussion:
https://surveyorconnect.com/community/gnss-geodesy/fixweek-is-working-still/
Or you can use UNAVCO’s program TEQC
https://www.unavco.org/software/data-processing/teqc/teqc.html
If that doesn’t automatically fix the date, then use the week option specify the current proper week, as
-week 2049
TEQC also lets you specify start and ending times, or ignore certain satellites, which are occasionally useful features.
.Well, I was able to resolve the issues I got it to work with the CORS stations. I edited the file through Wordpad. And it was easier than I expected. But both Fixweek and Rinexdates didn’t work. Since we’re only dealing with a date I don’t understand why they wouldn’t work. I guess I’ll have to get up to speed with TEQC, which looks pretty interesting. BTW thanks for your quick reply it was appreciated as I was in panic mode with the client calling me, “asking where’s the job at”.
I am out of town using an R10, so I haven’t experienced any issues. But, apparently we had data collected on Monday with a 5700 that fixweek didn’t fix, so I will have to look at it when I get back in. Actually, I have a 23 hour trip to Vietnam on Saturday, should give me plenty of time to look at it.
I will post a link here on RPLS once I fix the program.
While sitting in an airport right now I looked at the program and the 5700 data file.
I had put logic in the program to check if the week number was greater than 1025, meaning that the date was correct. This was done to keep from changing the date into the future for a file that had the correct date.
When I checked a file last week, it had a week number of 1024, so it fixed it by adding 1024 weeks to it. BUT, this week it has week number 1025, so it assumes it is correct, and does nothing to the date.
I am going to fix this when I have time over the next few days. It seems like, at least for that receiver (a 5700), the week rolled over 1024 and still only needs 1024 weeks added to it, not 2048 weeks. I think what I will do is put a check box in for dates before April 7, 2019, and maybe a check to see if the date is reasonable.
Once I do this I would appreciate any feedback if it does not work, as different receivers have different firmware and I can’t be sure they all behave the same. In fact, I am surprised that this particular 5700 rolled over past 1024 when it would not before. I have two 4700’s that also collected data on Monday but they are in the office and have not been downloaded yet. I will test it with those.
It is not as simple as just adding XXXX weeks to the file, as users may have an older file they want to convert, or maybe they are trying to convert a file that is already correct, etc, so I have to put checks in for these situations.
Thanks again. I had a bad Monday being tax day and than I get in and the post processing doesn’t work and I haven’t used Rinex since my TGO days. I guess I got complacent. I used to do more with GP Survey and TGO. TBC makes one lazy (just pushing buttons).
I just had occasion to try Trimble’s fixdatweek.exe on a DAT file from a Trimble 4700 receiver. The user reported that FixWeek did not work, but I tried Trimble’s fixdatweek and was able to get an OPUS solution.
You can download Trimble’s fixdatweek installer from https://www.trimble.com/support_trl.aspx?Nav=Collection-3579&pt=4700 , then click on the hyperlink “Downloads”. If that link does not work, simply search for “fixdatweek installer” and you will get there.
After installation go to the folder where it is installed (probably C:Program Files (x86)Trimblefixdatweek) and there is an RTF file (will open with Microsoft
Word) that describes how to use fixdatweek.exe. Probably will be easiest to copy the EXE file to a directory on your computer where you have write privileges, then copy the DAT file there and run the program per the instructions.GB
