My hero.
What can I say?
That’s a lot of traverse points!
N
I’ll bet he still can cut line! ????
Speechless.
I want to send him a retirement card. Brad do you know what office he works in or how to find out?
I remember this article:

I’ll bet that he knows how to do an Astronomical Observation too!
Fellow Boilermaker.
That is impressive.
“Surveyor can finally afford to retire”
—Dan MacIsaac, PLSExtraordinary. Surveying since Edmund Gunter was in diapers 🙂 Wishing Mr. Vollmer the very best!
The only superior evidence is that which you haven’t yet found.I’ll bet if we could get an address, a lot of folks on this board would send him a card. I also bet that ANGEL would send him some goodies!
@one-cup-o-joe, @angel
I found his work address. It is public information on the DNR’s website so I guess I shouldn’t feel bad posting it here. I am sure he would get a kick out of a bunch of random cards from fellow surveyors:
Bob Vollmer, PLS
Department of Natural Resources / Engineering
402 W. Washington St.
Marion County, Indianapolis, IN 46204
I have reached out to a friend of his with this request. I wonder if these should be sent to him in c/o his boss?
just a big ‘ol bag of cards from fellow surveyors! That would rock!

I wouldn’t, ain’t good protocol. Surely someone here can find out his home address. ????

Ten four. Still working on it…
Only 36 more years and I can join the rocking chair club.
When I hit 102 I will reconsider my retirement plans. Until then, the three days statement still holds. At that point, joining the rocking chair club, even for three days, might be a welcoming thought.
I enjoyed the televised interview with some old boy turning 100 several years ago. The stupid interviewer asked the standard question, “To what do you attribute the ability to reach such an advanced age?” The old boy quietly replied, “I made it a point not to die.”
One of my buddies in Indiana just text me. “Had Lunch today with Bob Vollmer at our state surveyors convention. He has some pretty great stories”.
There’s a fellow who might recognize a pipe from 1971 as being a fairly new monument. (See other post about an old iron pipe.)
