Forwarding as requested by a nearby engineering firm:

Survey community,

I hope you don't mind I am taking the time to send you this email but I think that it's important to come together in situations like this. Our company was robbed of two laser scanners, four total stations, four R10's, a level and a survey truck. All this totals to about $350,000 of survey equipment. Please be on the look out for the person in the images attached. Please be on the look out for any equipment thats for sale that could be stolen. If you recognize him or have any suspicions or information please contact the Folsom PD or the following:

If you see this person please report it to REY HR (916-365-3762) Bob Huun (916-826-4974) or Folsom PD at (916-355-7230) and reference case number 17-4350.

Thank you all!
Also please share!
-Claudia Westerlund

Man oh man - that is a lot of valuable equipment not to have had a security system!
I'd probably buy and train a guard dog to leave roaming the building at night!

I feel at least some of their pain. In 2014, my Suburban with $45000 worth of equipment was stolen out of my garage. I USED to leave the keys in it because it was in the garage... bad idea. They took it up into the hills about 10 miles from here and cleaned it out. I got the Suburban back but almost none of the equipment... they took rain gear, machetes, hammers, etc in addition to a robot, total station, prism poles and tripods. They even punched a hole in the plastic gas tank to drain the gas out of it. I'd never had to test out my insurance company in the previous 18 years, but they were really good to work with,

I've often wondered what they did with the robot... seems like they'd be lucky to get $500 out of it because It couldn't be sold through reputable channels.

Friend of mine had a trimble base station and radio stolen, I assume an R8, scumbag got $350 at a pawnshop, I'm sure he was sentenced to a few years.

GOOD NEWS!! EVERYTHING, equipment & truck and more, has been recovered in very good shape.
A parking facility over 100 miles away in San Francisco called the company, complaining that the truck would be towed if they didn't pay the parking fees for the past few days.

Company representative and Folsom Police traveled there, performed inventory, and all was released it back to the company.

To make things interesting, there were extra items recovered also (firearms, jewelry, gold bars, and more). The guy was busy in more than one place...

They already have an ID on the guy in the photos. Parolee with outstanding felony warrant (add a new one for this escapade).
Company is relieved to get the equipment back into use.

Yes, doesn't everyone have a few in the truck to keep the legs or survey signs from blowing away on a windy day.
