Posted by plumb-bill on January 19, 2011 at 6:30 pmDoes anyone know if it is possible to add an older GPS antenna to the TBC libraries.
Say for instance a Sokkia LOCUS.

If TBC still uses the GPSurvey/TGO ASCII files (one was the .PCT [Phase Correction Table] and the other was [I think] the ANTENNA.INI file) then YES.
There might be a utility to do this, but “back in the day” I either did it “by hand” or wrote a BASIC program to do it.
Just DON’T mix NGS Relative (or abosolute) calibration data, with the Trimble “nominal” Phase Center data. GPSurvey had BOTH Trimble and NGS files, I always used the NGS files.

It sounds like we’re all going to be using absolute antenna calibration files soon. Can TBC can use the IGS and/or NGS ANTEX files, or does Trimble provide its own?
On a related matter, is there an upgrade path from TGO to TBC, or do TGO users have to pay full fare?
Thanks.
Jim
According the the NGS (Webinar last Friday), the NGS will have ITRF_2008 compatable Absolute Antenna calibration files available in the near future (Spring/Summer).
These will be the same FORMAT that the NGS has been using for years (or so I understand it), so it shouldn’t be a too big a deal.

I had to leave the webinar at 11:30 in order to attend a meeting. If it hadn’t started so late I probably could have stayed for the whole thing.
P.S. I *think* I had my phone muted during the webinar, but at one point I yelled at my son who had started banging on the piano in the living room. Immediately after that the presenter stopped and made a remark I didn’t quite catch about extraneous going-on. I hope my shouted “Peter — knock it off!” wasn’t shared with 200 other people…

Jim: yes, it was. That was a good laugh.
I think their setup was flawed. They should have used the built in audio on gotomeeting, but for whatever reason they decided to use what I guess was a conferencing service. At least they should use one where the moderator can mute everyone. There were a lot of side conversations going on.
Other than that a very informative presentation.

Got a quote from my local dealer today: $2,995 for TBC Advanced. Apparently the original price was $6,495 with a TGO upgrade price of $2,995, but when the TGO upgrade offer expired they lowered the list price to $2,995. In either case, that’s more than I can justify spending right now, so I’ll have to wait until my workload justifies the switch.
