Suggestions for Star*Net
When I first bought Star*Net many years ago, it was easy to talk to the developer (Ron Sawyer). But, I didn’t really use it until recently. I had been using Geolab since 1986, but I have become very discouraged by the lack of development of that software (I believe it is currently for sale or has been sold). I still think it is the most rigorous program for large adjustments, but star*net is much easier to use and gives some very useful output. I still use Geolab for GPS only projects, but like Star*Net for leveling and TS and TS/GPS combined. One drawback to using Star*Net for combined networks is that if leveling is included all of the leveled stations must have a position, whereas Geolab does not have that requirement.
So, now I am using Star*Net a lot more. I wrote translators that fit my workflow to create input files for total station data, Dini level data, and GPS (static and RTK). However, one very irritating behaviour is when I alt-tab out to get data (i.e. to copy and paste) and then I alt-tab back in I have to reposition the cursor, in other words I cannot just paste where I was when I left. In fact, I cannot paste at all until I click in the edit window. So I want to submit a request to them for this feature (i.e. to be able to alt-tab in and out of the edit window without having to click in it after coming back)
Another request is to be able to have ECEF coordinates in addition to grid (“C”) and lat/long (“P”). Maybe an “X” record? It would be very easy to convert from ECEF to lat/long and grid.
Hopefully someone at Microsurvey reads this, or maybe someone knows how to make suggestions to them?
Edit: I had been trying to register to be able to submit a help desk ticket, but every time I tried I got an error that said “privacy policy review required” or something like that. Then I did a search of my old emails and found a registration from 2013, so I did submit two tickets. Hopefully they will respond…
