RIP Michael North
I am very sad to say that Michael North passed away today. He was a licensed land surveyor in Tennessee, and Georgia (I believe). I do not know many details yet, but it happened pretty quickly. From what I understand at this time, he got sick, and his health went down rapidly. He was the owner of Northpointe Surveying in Chattanooga.
I met Michael a few years ago, when he became involved in TAPS in the Southeast Chapter. This is the Chattanooga, Tennessee area. Mike’s passion was contagious, and he was a true professional. He was an even better person. I am proud to have called him my friend. Mike was awarded the Tennessee Association of Professional Surveyor’s Surveyor of the Year in 2016. He was nominated for Chapter President of the year for 2017. He was instrumental in helping establish the Certified Floodplain Surveyor program in Tennessee along with the State Floodplain Administrator, and a few other highly qualified surveyors. Mike was the very first member of our Association to become a lifetime member when we made that option available a few years ago.
I thought about Mike just this past weekend when his Georgia Bulldogs were playing in the SEC Championship game. He wore his Georgia Bulldogs shirts quite frequently. We had had a conversation about football at our last TAPS Board of Directors meeting just a few months ago.
Mike was a very passionate, yet humble person. You could not help but want to be a better person when you were around him. I only found out today that he was sick, and just a few short hours later found out he was gone. I am still in shock. Mike’s passing leaves a huge void in our Association, his friends lives, and most importantly, his family’s lives.
Rest in peace Mike. You left some very big shoes to fill. You will be missed and not forgotten.
