Hello from California!
Good day everyone. Knew guy here, both to this forum and to this industry. I’ve been in private security for 25 years and found it has been a dead end. Imagine 25 years of experience and knowledge that you can do hardly anything with. So, I figured I’d best move on to something I’d prefer to do more before It was too late. I mainly got into security as it was mostly a loners job with no supervisor looking over my shoulder all the time. It gave me the opportunity to be outdoors almost 100% of the time. And I felt I was helping people, even if most looked down on my profession. But, after 25 years I still am making minimum wage, no savings, really don’t like the way companies are structured and I’m still just a guard sitting in a shack. I’ve looked around a lot and tested the waters with a lot of different jobs/industries and surveying seems right up my alley. The idea of being out in the middle of the desert one week, in the forest the next, and climbing fences in a suburb the next is a wish come true. The idea of striving for precision is a look into my professional soul. I may be a bit long in the tooth to expect to advance very far. Perhaps I would ride it to retirement just being a chainman, I would be happy with that. I am learning AutoCad Map 3D, surveying basics and property law. Anyways, glad to be here.
