Perpetuate Dig Safe markings
Posted by ashton on June 26, 2018 at 4:00 pmCan someone recommend some sort of marker that is driven or pushed into a grassy area to perpetuate the paint markings placed by Dig Safe. It should be something I can order in small quantities (on the order of 20 markers).

I can buy the wire flags at my survey supply house. I don’t know about the quantity that you want but they are usually willing to work with me. That said, while I understand why you may want to do this, you should understand that there may be some liability that comes with it that you don’t want to assume. Outside of our office there has been some wire flags marking a gas line for months and I know that the landscapers move them around to suit their mowing pattern.
For something that would last better than paint or pinflags, I would use these:
Available in different colors. I cut the whiskers off a little shorter if it is in an area that will be mowed.

Users of dig line marks are required to perpetuate them throughout excavation..
I was thinking of something smallish and flush with the ground, so not only will mowers not hit it, but a person with thin-soled shoes can walk on it with no problem.
Why would you care where “dig safe” marks are? They are probably wrong anyway.
Until there is some serious push-back against this pseudo service. The only way to find a utility is with an excavator.
We call them “shot-in-the-dark” utility marking services.
Historic Boundaries and Conservation EffortsMost states will call an accident your fault if you ignore the marks or dig after they fade.
I whacked an incorrectly marked phone line once and learned more than I care to know..
