CA PLS Expiration
Posted by john-putnam on July 7, 2020 at 11:05 pmOkay,
When did California drop the requirement on showing the expiration date on your stamp? I really wish Oregon would ditch the requirement. I actually had a County Surveyor redline a survey because my stamp said ‘renewal’ instead of ‘renews’.

I believe it’s been almost 10 years. I have had my Ca PLS about that long and I recall it was changed right as I got it. And also have been Redlined for renewal date. BS for sure but I pick my battles. Cheers.
Okay, so I guess I’ve been updating the expiration date on my CA stamp for now reason. No big deal since the only people that see it are the engineers I work with. Nothing like 2 miles of RR mapping plotted to a tabloid sheet so they can have a stamped copy on file. I guess I should look over the non recording type of statutes more often.
Was it Multnomah that bled on your stamp?
Yep, it has been 10 years

OAR 820-025-0005(2) ……. If the expiration or renewal date is not made part of the seal, it must be handwritten, in permanent ink, after the word “Expires” or ??Renews.? Reduced or enlarged seals are not permitted on final documents. ….
There is actually a rule about that. I can imagine you being sent to OSBEELS version of the “Group W” bench to talk with the pincushioners and non-filers there about your life of pin cushioning and non-filing, only to have them refuse to talk to you when you tell them that your crime is one of using “renewal” instead of “renews”.
Washington removed the rule requiring the expiry date on stamps a few years ago, also.
@norman-Oklahoma But maybe if I started to sing a song about it they would let me go.
I knew about Washington reversing the requirement. To me the requirement seems to throw a little confusion at the general public. ‘Does this mean that the document is not valid after the renewal date’ was the question brought up when the rule was implemented.
Yes, it seems the general public assumes the survey will no longer be valid, after that date…
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will!
